根白皮 Oyat Ppuri Sokkkeopjil (오얏 뿌리 속껍질)

Geunbaekpi is the white inner bark from the root of a plum tree. The text pins down which tree by noting that 'the fruit is the ija', the Korean plum, and it carries the leaf and the fruit as sub-entries under the same heading. The bark was roasted to a yellow color and then simmered in water.

  1. 性大寒一云涼, 味苦, 無毒. 止消渴.

    Its nature is greatly cold, though one account calls it cool; its taste is bitter, and it is non-toxic. It stops sogal (消渴, wasting thirst).

  2. 主奔豚氣逆. 治熱毒煩躁, 療齒痛, 及赤白痢赤白帶.

    It governs qi counterflow from bundon (奔豚, running piglet qi). It treats vexation and agitation from heat toxin, and heals toothache, jeokbaengni (赤白痢, red and white dysentery), and jeokbaekdae (赤白帶, red and white vaginal discharge).

  3. 灸黃色, 水煮服. 《本草》

    Roast it until it turns yellow, then decoct it in water and drink. 《Boncho (本草)》
