柰子 능금 (내자)

  1. 性寒一云冷, 味苦一云苦澁, 無毒.

    Its nature is cold, also said to be chilly. The taste is bitter, or by another account bitter and astringent, with no toxicity.

  2. 益心氣, 和脾, 補中焦諸不足氣.

    It nourishes the heart's qi, harmonizes the spleen, and replenishes the various deficient energies of the middle burner.

  3. 在處有之, 似林檎而小,

    It grows commonly in many places, resembling the chinese apple but smaller in size.

  4. 多食令人脹. 《本草》

    Eating too much, however, causes bloating in the belly, so moderation is advised. Recorded in the Bencao.
