Goho is the bitter kind of bottle gourd. Gourds are usually hollowed into dippers or dried young into bakgoji strips, but bitter-tasting ones were set apart under this name. The text records outright that it carries poison, so it is not food.

性冷, 味苦, 有毒.
Its nature is cold, its taste is bitter, and it is toxic.
HomiclubGoho is the bitter sort of bottle gourd. Among gourds, cucumbers, and squashes an intensely bitter individual now and then appears, owing to bitter compounds called cucurbitacins. People of old likewise set such fruits aside and did not eat them.

其瓤療大水, 面目四肢浮腫, 下水氣, 令人吐.
Its pulp treats daesu (大水, massive water swelling) and puffiness of the face, eyes, and limbs, drives water qi downward, and makes a person vomit.

If the vomiting does not stop, it is resolved with lye made from millet-straw ash. 《Boncho (本草)》
