Haedae is kelp, dasima. A large brown seaweed of the East Sea, it is the same kelp used today for stock, for wraps and for fried snacks. Donguibogam puts it in the vegetable section and tells it apart from haejo, the gulfweed group, by saying it is coarser and longer.
