越瓜 Huinoi (흰오이)
Wolgwa is a very pale fruit of the cucumber and melon kin, named for the land of Yue where it grew. It answers to the vegetable form of the oriental melon, the white, mild fruit still salted down for pickles. The Donguibogam cautioned against eating much of it.

性寒, 味甘.
Its nature is cold and its taste is sweet.
HomiclubWolgwa is a vegetable variety of the same species as the Korean melon, staying pale even when ripe. The white gourd that Japan calls shirouri (白瓜) and uses for pickling belongs to this group.

利腸胃, 止煩渴, 不可多食.
It benefits the intestines and stomach and stops vexing thirst, but it should not be eaten in quantity.

生越地, 色正白, 越人食之. 《本草》
It grows in the land of Wol (越), its color is pure white, and the people of Wol eat it. 《Boncho (本草)》
HomiclubWol (越) was the old name for the region of today's Zhejiang in China, and the word at the head of the name points to that place of origin.
