Passi (파씨)

Scallion seed is the seed of the scallion (葱), and the original entry opens by identifying it outright as chongja (葱子), "scallion seed." The Dongui Bogam does not give it a full entry of its own; it appears as an appended entry under scallion white (chongbaek, 葱白), the white lower stalk of the scallion. In early summer the scallion sends up a globe-shaped flower head, and in its place angular black seeds ripen. Even today, scallion farming begins with saving and sowing these seeds.
