  1. 味苦辛, 性澁. 皆側向而生.

    Its taste is bitter and pungent, and its nature astringent. The leaves all grow turned to the side.

    HomiclubThis entry is the leaf of the preceding item, the oriental arborvitae. The name cheukbaek (側柏, side-turned cypress) comes from the way its flattened sprays stand edgewise.

  2. 主吐血衄血痢血, 補陰之要藥.

    It governs vomiting of blood, nosebleed, and bloody dysentery; it is an essential medicine for supplementing eum (陰, yin).

  3. 四時各依方面採, 陰乾. 入藥, 蒸用. 《本草》

    In each of the four seasons gather it according to the corresponding direction and dry it in the shade. When put into medicine it is steamed before use. 《Boncho (本草)》
