Goryanggang is the rhizome of a ginger-family perennial — galangal, the same group as the aromatic root used in Thai and Vietnamese cooking — and its form was likened to wild ginger. The name comes from Goryang commandery in China, where it grew. Dongui Bogam marks it 【唐】.

  1. 性熱, 味辛苦, 無毒. 治胃中冷逆, 霍亂吐瀉.

    Its nature is hot; its taste is pungent and bitter, and it is non-toxic. It treats cold counterflow in the stomach and vomiting with diarrhoea in gwallan (霍亂, sudden turmoil disorder).

  2. 止腹痛, 療瀉痢, 消宿食, 解酒毒.

    It comes from Goryang-gun (高良郡) and is shaped like sangang (山薑, wild ginger). Slice it, roast it in oil, and use it. 《Boncho (本草)》
