性寒, 味甘一云苦, 無毒.
Cold in nature, sweet in taste (some say bitter), and non-toxic.

止咳逆上氣, 除煩熱, 止消渴, 壓丹石毒.
It calms reverse-rising cough, clears vexing heat, relieves wasting thirst, and suppresses the toxicity of mineral elixirs.

療風痙, 喉痺, 嘔吐.
It treats wind-induced spasms, sore throat obstruction, and vomiting.

主吐血, 熱毒風, 惡瘍, 殺小蟲.
It addresses hemoptysis, heat-toxin wind, malignant sores, and kills small parasites.

竹有䈽淡苦三種.
There are three kinds of bamboo: big bamboo, sweet (pale) bamboo, and bitter bamboo.

䈽竹體圓而質勁, 大者宜刺船, 細者可爲笛.
Big bamboo has a round, sturdy stem; large ones suit boat poles, slender ones can be made into flutes.

甘竹似篁而茂, 卽淡竹也.
Sweet bamboo resembles the big species but grows more lushly, and is in fact the pale bamboo.

It addresses sudden stroke and intense heat in the chest.

止煩悶, 卒中風失音不語, 痰熱昏迷, 止消渴.
It relieves vexation and oppression, sudden stroke with loss of speech, clouded consciousness from phlegm-heat, and wasting thirst.

治破傷風及産後發熱, 小兒驚癎, 一切危急之疾.
It treats tetanus, postpartum fever, infantile convulsions, and all urgent acute illnesses.

It grows deep within dense, lush bamboo groves, is as large as a chicken egg, and is wrapped layer upon layer in bamboo leaves.

Decoct it and drink the broth. It clears vexing heat, quenches thirst while tonifying deficiency, descends qi, and resolves toxicity.
