Bongseonhwa is the flower of garden balsam, an annual, the same bongseonhwa in the crop guide. Its petals, pounded with alum, were the summer dye for staining fingernails, and the ripe pods fling their seeds at a touch. Donguibogam records the alternate name geumbonghwa.
