厚朴 Hubak (후박)
Hubak is the trunk bark of the Chinese magnolia Magnolia officinalis; thick, purplish, glossy pieces counted as best. The evergreen called hubak-namu on Korea's south coast is a laurel-family tree that only shares the name. Donguibogam marked it with 唐 and says to brush it with ginger juice and roast it.
