花 Bangpung Kkot (방풍 꽃)

The flower of bangpung (siler, Saposhnikovia divaricata). True to its umbellifer family, the plant bears small white blossoms clustered in umbels — flower heads that spread out like the ribs of an umbrella — which open from summer into early autumn. The Dongui Bogam gives the flower its own brief entry alongside the root, leaves, and seeds. Bangpung grown as a table green, however, is usually harvested for its tender young leaves before it ever blooms, so the flowers themselves are rarely seen.
