性微寒, 味苦, 微毒. 殺諸蟲, 利大腸.
Its nature is slightly cold and its taste bitter, and it is slightly toxic. It kills the various worms and frees the large intestine.

有雌雄. 雄者根赤無子, 有大毒, 服之令人吐不止. 雌者根白有子, 微毒. 藥用當取雌者. 《本草》
There are female and male. The male has a red root and no seed, carries great toxicity, and taken it makes a person vomit without stopping. The female has a white root and bears seed, and is slightly toxic. For medicinal use one should take the female. 《Boncho (本草)》
