靑蘘 Geomeun Chamkkae Ip (검은 참깨 잎)

Cheongyang is the leaf of black sesame. The kkaennip served at Korean tables is perilla leaf, a different plant altogether. The Dongui Bogam places it in the grains section as the leaf of homa, black sesame, and notes it is oily and slippery enough to wash hair with.

  1. 補腦髓, 堅筋骨.

    It supplements the noesu (腦髓, brain marrow) and firms the sinews and bones.

    HomiclubCheongyang is the leaf of black sesame. The kkaennip eaten as a wrap and side dish in Korea is the leaf of perilla, a different plant.

  2. 卽胡麻葉也. 甚肥滑, 亦可以沐頭. 《本草》

    This is the leaf of homa (胡麻, sesame). It is very rich and slippery, and one may also wash the hair with it. 《Boncho (本草)》
