桂心 Gyepi Sokkyeo (계피 속켜)

1. 治九種心痛, 殺三蟲, 破血, 止腹內冷痛.

   It treats the nine kinds of heart pain, kills the samchung (三蟲, three worms), breaks up blood stasis, and stops cold pain within the abdomen.

   HomiclubGyesim is the inner layer of cinnamon bark. The rough, cracked outer face is pared away and only the pungent inner part is kept, which is the inner flesh of what is called cinnamon today.

2. 治一切風氣, 補五勞七傷, 通九竅, 利關節, 益精明目, 煖腰膝, 除風痺, 破痃癖癥瘕, 消瘀血, 續筋骨, 生肌肉, 下胞衣.

   It treats every kind of wind qi, supplements the oro chilsang (五勞七傷, five taxations and seven damages), opens the nine orifices, and eases the joints. It augments jeong (精, essence), brightens the eyes, warms the lower back and knees, and removes pungbi (風痺, wind impediment). It breaks up hyeonbyeok (痃癖) and jingga (癥瘕, abdominal masses), disperses static blood, knits sinew and bone, engenders flesh, and brings down the afterbirth.

3. 卽是削除皮上甲錯處, 取近裏辛而有味.

   That is, the scaly, cracked surface of the bark is pared away and the part near the inside, pungent and full of taste, is taken.

   HomiclubGapchak describes a surface cracked into rough, scale-like plates. Cinnamon is still graded by the inner bark that remains once the corky outer layer has been stripped.

4. 桂皮一斤, 只得五兩爲正. 《本草》

   From one geun (斤, catty) of cinnamon bark, obtaining only five nyang (兩, taels) is correct. 《Boncho (本草)》
