桐皮 Odongnamu Kkeopjil (오동나무 껍질)

Dongpi is the bark of the paulownia. It stands as a sub-entry under paulownia in the trees section, listed part by part beside the leaf and the flower. The tree is better known today as the timber for chests and for the soundboards of Korean zithers.

  1. 主五痔. 殺三蟲, 治五淋.

    It chiefly governs the ochi (五痔, five kinds of piles). It kills the three worms and treats orim (五淋, the five stranguries).

    HomiclubPaulownia bark is smooth and gray when young and cracks into shallow vertical lines with age. The Donguibogam lists the paulownia in parallel entries for leaf, bark, and oil.

  2. 沐頭去風生髮. 《本草》

    Washing the head with it removes wind and brings hair forth. 《Boncho (本草)》
