紫檀香 Jadanhyang (자단향)
Jadanhyang is a fragrant timber whose heartwood carries a purple-red cast; it also went by the name jajindan. Burned or shaved, it gives off a heavy scent, and it was worked for that. Donguibogam files it among the woods, with a Korean note that it grew plentifully in Gangwon Province.

性溫, 味辛, 無毒.
Its nature is warm, its taste acrid, and it is without toxicity.

主惡毒, 風毒, 霍亂, 心腹痛, 中惡, 鬼氣.
It governs malign toxin, wind toxin, sudden turmoil disorder, pain in the chest and abdomen, malignity strike, and ghost qi.

In our country it is plentiful in Gangwon Province. 《Sokbang》
HomiclubZitan properly names the red heartwood of Indian and Southeast Asian trees. The note that it abounds in Gangwon likely reflects a domestic juniper being used under the same name. Zitan timber still serves for incense and fine woodwork.
