蠡實 붇곳여름 (여실)

  1. 性平溫一云寒, 味甘, 無毒.

    Its nature is neutral and warm, though some say cold. The taste is sweet, and it has no toxicity.

  2. 主胃熱, 止心煩, 利大小便.

    It treats stomach heat, calms restless irritation in the chest, and promotes smooth bowel movements and urination.

  3. 治婦人血暈, 幷崩中帶下,

    It cures postpartum dizziness in women and also addresses sudden uterine bleeding and abnormal vaginal discharge.

  4. 消瘡癤腫毒, 消酒毒, 治黃病.

    It dissolves the toxins of boils and swellings, neutralises hangovers, and cures jaundice.

  5. 此卽馬藺子也. 處處有之.

    This is none other than malinzi, the seed of the Chinese iris, and it grows everywhere.

  6. 葉似薤而長厚.

    Its leaves resemble those of chives but are longer and thicker.

  7. 三月開紫碧花, 五月結實.

    It opens purplish-blue flowers in the third month and bears fruit in the fifth month.

  8. 根細長, 通黃色, 人取以爲刷.

    The root is slender, long, and uniformly yellow; people gather it to make brushes.

  9. 三月採花, 五月採實, 幷陰乾. 《本草》

    Pick the flowers in the third month and gather the seeds in the fifth month, drying both in the shade. From the Bencao.

  10. 今人以此治急喉痺, 及食牛馬肉發疔腫, 最妙. 《俗方》

    People today use it to treat sudden throat obstruction and the boils that erupt after eating beef or horse meat, and the results are remarkable. From folk remedies.

  11. 花葉

    On the uses of the flowers and leaves.

  12. 去白蟲, 療喉痺.

    They expel intestinal parasites and relieve throat inflammation.

  13. 多服令人泄. 《本草》

    Taking too much, however, causes diarrhoea, so the dose must be moderated. From the Bencao.
