沒藥 Molyak (몰약)

Molyak is myrrh, the reddish resin that hardens on the trunk of a Burseraceae tree and has long been burned as incense. Donguibogam lists it with the 【唐】 mark for goods imported through China and describes it as the pine resin of Persia.

  1. 性平一云溫, 味苦一云辛, 無毒. 破癥結宿血, 止痛.

Its nature is neutral, though one account calls it warm; its taste is bitter, though one account calls it pungent, and it is non-toxic. It breaks up jeong-gyeol (癥結, fixed masses) and stale blood, and stops pain.

HomiclubMolyak is the reddish resin that seeps from the trunk of the myrrh tree, a member of the frankincense family. Known in English as myrrh, it is tapped from trees of the dry country of the Arabian Peninsula and northeastern Africa.

  2. 主打撲傷, 折筋骨瘀痛, 金瘡杖瘡, 諸惡瘡, 痔漏. 消腫毒, 卒下血, 去目中瞖, 暈痛, 膚赤.

It chiefly treats injuries from blows and falls, stagnant blood and pain from broken sinews and bones, wounds from blades and beatings, various malignant sores, and fistulous piles. 3. 似安息香, 其塊大小不定黑色. 硏細入藥, 或熱酒和服. 《本草》

It resembles ansikhyang (安息香, benzoin), and its lumps are of no fixed size and black in color. Grind it fine and put it into a formula, or mix it into hot liquor and take it. 《Boncho (本草)》

  4. 波斯國松脂也. 破血消腫止痛, 爲瘡家奇藥也. 《入門》

It is the pine resin of the country of Pasa. It breaks blood, disperses swelling, and stops pain, and is a wondrous medicine for those who deal with sores. 《Immun (入門)》

HomiclubPasa is the old name for Persia, present-day Iran. Myrrh is not pine resin but the resin of the myrrh tree, and Persia was not its source but the route by which it reached China.
