枸杞酒 Gugijasul (구기자술)

Gugiju is liquor steeped with goji berries. The Grain section carries several wines, and for this one it records only that the recipe appears in the Japbang chapter, sending the method elsewhere. Home-steeped goji liquor is still common in Korea.

  1. 補虛, 肥健人. 方見雜方

    It supplements depletion and makes a person plump and sturdy. The formula appears in the japbang (雜方, miscellaneous formulas).

    HomiclubGugija is the red berry of the boxthorn, a shrub of the nightshade family. Cheongyang in South Chungcheong and Jindo in South Jeolla are its best-known Korean growing areas, and it is still commonly steeped in liquor at home.
