  1. 性大寒一云冷, 無毒. 下三焦熱毒氣, 通大小腸, 滑骨髓, 困脾藏. 《本草》

    Its nature is very cold, though one account calls it merely cool, and it is non-toxic. It brings down heat-toxin qi of the samcho (三焦, triple burner), frees the large and small intestines, makes the marrow slippery, and wearies the bijang (脾藏, spleen). 《Boncho (本草)》

    HomiclubThis is oil pressed from raw white sesame. Kitchen sesame oil is pressed from roasted seed, so it differs in method from the raw-pressed oil the text assigns to medicine.

  2. 治蛔心痛, 殺一切蟲. 付諸瘡, 疥癬. 《本草》

    It treats heart-region pain from roundworm and kills all manner of worms. It is applied to sores of every kind and to scabies. 《Boncho (本草)》

  3. 搗脂麻, 壓笮爲油. 生笮者入藥, 炒熟者可供食. 一名香油. 《本草》

    Pound jima (脂麻, sesame) and press it to make oil. What is pressed raw goes into medicine; what is pressed after parching may be served as food. It is also called hyangyu (香油). 《Boncho (本草)》

    HomiclubThe name hyangyu survives unchanged in Chinese as the word for sesame oil. In Korean the same product is called chamgireum.

  4. 牙齒病, 幷脾胃疾人, 切不可喫. 《本草》

    Those with tooth disease, and likewise those with an ailment of the biwi (脾胃, spleen and stomach), must not eat it at all. 《Boncho (本草)》

  5. 陳油煎膏, 生肌長肉, 消癰腫, 補皮裂. 《本草》

    Aged oil decocted into a salve makes new flesh sprout and grow, disperses ongjong (癰腫, abscesses and swellings), and mends cracked skin. 《Boncho (本草)》
