補骨脂 Bogolji (보골지)

Bogolji is the seed of an annual legume, also known as pagoji. The Donguibogam describes it as flat, round and black, much like a hemp seed, and gathered in the ninth month. It carries the mark 唐, meaning the material was imported from China.

  1. 性大溫, 味辛一云苦, 無毒. 主勞傷, 骨髓傷敗, 腎冷精流, 腰疼膝冷, 囊濕.

    Its nature is greatly warm and its taste pungent, though one account calls it bitter; it is non-toxic. It governs taxation damage, damage and decay of the marrow, cold in the sin (腎, kidney) with seepage of jeong (精, essence), aching lower back with cold knees, and dampness of the scrotum.

    HomiclubBogolji is the seed of an annual legume, widely grown today across India and Southeast Asia. The seeds are about the size of hemp seed, black and flattened, and give off a sharp scent when rubbed between the fingers.

  2. 止小便利. 治腹中冷, 能興陽事.

    It stops frequent urination. It treats cold within the abdomen and can rouse yangsa (陽事, sexual vigour).

  3. 一名破故紙. 實如麻子, 圓扁而黑. 九月採. 《本草》

    Another name for it is pagoji (破故紙). Its fruit is like hemp seed, round, flat and black. It is gathered in the ninth month. 《Boncho (本草)》

  4. 急用微炒, 止泄麪炒, 補腎麻子仁炒. 《入門》

    For urgent use it is lightly parched; to stop diarrhoea it is parched with wheat flour; to supplement the sin (腎, kidney) it is parched with majain (麻子仁, hemp seed kernels). 《Immun (入門)》
