升麻 Seungma (승마)
Seungma is the root of a field herb, 'kkwidyeolgarit bulhwi' in old Korean. Its leaves resemble hemp (麻), which is where the name comes from. Dug in the second and eighth months and sun-dried, it is scraped of black skin; thin green-tinged pieces like chicken bone were preferred.
