萆麻子 아주까리 (비마자)

  1. 性平, 味甘辛, 有小毒.

    성평, 미감신, 유소독.

    Its nature is neutral, taste sweet and pungent, with mild toxicity. Castor seed is balanced in temperature and broadly usable, but its toxicity demands careful handling.

  2. 治水脹腹滿, 催生.

    치수창복만, 최생.

    It treats water swelling with abdominal fullness and assists childbirth. Old physicians valued its downward-draining power for edema and difficult labor alike.

  3. 瘡痍疥癩, 去水癥浮腫, 尸疰惡氣.

    창이개라, 거수징부종, 시주악기.

    It addresses sores, scabies, and leprous lesions, removes water-mass swellings and edema, and dispels corpse-infusion and noxious qi. From skin ailments to deep-seated masses, it served as a versatile external remedy.

  4. 葉似大麻而極大, 其子形如牛蜱蟲, 故以名之. 《本草》

    엽사대마이극대, 기자형여우비충, 고이명지. 《본초》

    Its leaves resemble hemp but are much larger, and the seed shape recalls the cattle tick chong, hence the name. The character name bima itself was drawn from this seed's appearance. From Bencao.

  5. 萆麻能出有形質之滯物, 善吸氣, 當是外科要藥.

    비마능출유형질지체물, 선흡기, 당시외과요약.

    Castor draws out tangible obstructions and absorbs qi well, making it a key remedy in external medicine. It was especially prized topically for bursting boils and drawing out pus.

  6. 鹽水煮, 去皮取仁. 《入門》

    염수자, 거피취인. 《입문》

    Boil in salt water, then remove the husk and take only the kernel. This is the traditional processing that tempers toxicity and refines the medicinal nature. From Ipmun.
