馬兜鈴 쥐방울 (마두령)

  1. 性寒一云平, 味苦, 無毒.

    성한일운평, 미고, 무독.

    Cold in nature (some say neutral), bitter in taste, and non-toxic.

  2. 主肺熱咳嗽喘急, 淸肺下氣.

    주폐열해수천급, 청폐하기.

    It treats cough and shortness of breath from lung heat, clearing the lungs and descending the qi.

  3. 處處有之.

    처처유지.

    It grows commonly in many places.

  4. 藤遶樹而生, 子狀如鈴, 作四五瓣.

    등요수이생, 자상여령, 작사오판.

    The vine winds around trees, and its fruit is shaped like a bell, splitting into four or five segments.

  5. 葉脫時, 鈴尙垂如馬項鈴, 故得名.

    엽탈시, 령상수여마항령, 고득명.

    Even after the leaves drop, the bell-like fruits still hang as if on a horse's neck — hence the name “horse-bell.”

  6. 熟則自折, 八九月間採實, 暴乾.

    숙즉자절, 팔구월간채실, 폭건.

    When ripe it splits open by itself, so the fruit is gathered in the 8th–9th lunar month and dried in the sun.

  7. 只取裏面子, 去殼及革膜, 微炒用. 《本草》

    지취리면자, 거각급혁막, 미초용. 《본초》

    Use only the inner seeds: remove the husk and membrane, then lightly roast them. (Bencao)

  9. 治血痔, 瘻瘡.

    치혈치, 누창.

    It treats bleeding hemorrhoids and chronic fistulous sores.

  10. 形似木香, 小指大, 赤黃色.

    형사목향, 소지대, 적황색.

    Resembling muxiang in shape, about the thickness of a little finger and reddish-yellow in color.

  11. 名土靑木香, 又名獨行根.

    명토청목향, 우명독행근.

    Also called tu-qing-muxiang, or duxinggen (“lone-walker root”).

  12. 三月採根, 灸用. 《本草》

    삼월채근, 구용. 《본초》

    Dig the root in the 3rd lunar month and roast it before use. (Bencao)
