葱白 파흰밑 (총백)

  1. 性涼一云平, 味辛, 無毒.

    성량일운평 미신 무독

    Cool in nature, though some sources call it neutral; pungent in taste and non-toxic.

  2. 主傷寒寒熱, 中風面目腫.

    주상한한열 중풍면목종

    Treats chills and fever from cold-pathogen illness, as well as facial and eye swelling from wind-stroke.

  3. 療喉痺, 安胎, 歸目, 除肝邪, 利五藏, 殺百藥毒, 通大小便.

    료후비 안태 귀목 제간사 이오장 살백약독 통대소변

    Relieves throat obstruction, calms the fetus, brightens the eyes, expels evil qi from the liver, benefits the five viscera, neutralizes the toxicity of many medicines, and promotes both urination and bowel movement.

  4. 治奔豚脚氣.

    치분돈각기

    Treats running-piglet syndrome (qi surging up from the abdomen) and beriberi.

  5. 處處種之, 宜冬月食.

    처처종지 의동월식

    Cultivated everywhere and best eaten during the winter months.

  6. 只可和五味用之, 不宜多食.

    지가화오미용지 불의다식

    Should only be blended with other seasonings as a flavoring; it ought not be eaten in large amounts.

  7. 盖開骨節, 出汗虛人故爾.

    개개골절 출한허인고이

    This is because it opens the joints and induces sweating, thereby weakening the body.

  8. 一名凍葱, 謂經冬不死.

    일명동총 위경동불사

    Also called 'frozen scallion,' so named because it survives through the winter without dying.

  9. 分莖栽蒔而無子也.

    분경재시이무자야

    Propagated by dividing and transplanting its stems, as it bears no seeds.

  10. 食用入藥, 最善.

    식용입약 최선

    Excellent both as food and as medicine.

  11. 此物, 大抵以發散爲功, 多食昏人神.

    차물 대저이발산위공 다식혼인신

    This herb chiefly works by dispersing, so eating too much clouds the mind.

  12. 且白冷而靑熱.

    차백랭이청열

    Furthermore, the white base is cooling while the green leaves are heating.

  13. 傷寒藥去靑葉者, 以其熱也.

    상한약거청엽자 이기열야

    Cold-illness remedies remove the green leaves precisely because they are heating in nature.

  14. 葱者菜之伯, 雖臭而有用.

    총자채지백 수취이유용

    The scallion is the chief among vegetables; though pungent in smell, it has many uses.

  15. 消金玉成漿. 《本草》

    소금옥성장. 《본초》

    It is said to be powerful enough to dissolve metal and jade into liquid. From the Bencao.

  16. 入手太陰經ㆍ足陽明經, 以通上下之陽也.

    입수태음경ㆍ족양명경 이통상하지양야

    It enters the hand-taiyin lung meridian and the foot-yangming stomach meridian, thereby linking the yang energy of the upper and lower body.

  17. 專主發散風寒. 《湯液》

    전주발산풍한. 《탕액》

    Specifically employed to disperse wind-cold. From the Tangye.

  18. On the seed.

  19. 卽葱子也. 明目, 溫中, 益精. 《本草》

    즉총자야. 명목 온중 익정. 《본초》

    This is the scallion seed; it brightens the eyes, warms the middle, and replenishes essence. From the Bencao.

  20. On the root.

  21. 卽葱鬚也. 主傷寒陽明經頭痛. 《本草》

    즉총수야. 주상한양명경두통. 《본초》

    These are the fine scallion roots; they treat headaches in the yangming meridian caused by cold pathogens. From the Bencao.

  22. On the leaf.

  23. 治諸瘡中風水腫痛, 成破傷風. 《本草》

    치제창중풍수종통 성파상풍. 《본초》

    Treats various sores invaded by wind that swell and ache, including those that progress into tetanus. From the Bencao.

  24. On the flower.

  25. 主脾心痛. 《本草》

    주비심통. 《본초》

    Treats epigastric pain arising from spleen weakness. From the Bencao.

  26. 胡葱

    호총

    On hochong, the so-called purple scallion.

  27. 性溫, 味辛, 無毒.

    성온 미신 무독

    Warm in nature, pungent in taste, and non-toxic.

  28. 溫中消穀, 下氣殺蟲.

    온중소곡 하기살충

    Warms the middle to aid digestion of grains, descends qi, and kills intestinal parasites.

  29. 久食傷神損性.

    구식상신손성

    Long-term consumption harms the spirit and damages one's temperament.

  30. 其狀似大蒜而小, 形圓皮赤, 稍長而銳.

    기상사대산이소 형원피적 초장이예

    It resembles garlic but is smaller, round in shape with red skin, slightly elongated and pointed at the tip.

  31. 五六月採, 亦是葷物耳. 《本草》

    오륙월채 역시훈물이. 《본초》

    Harvested in the fifth or sixth month, and it too belongs to the pungent vegetables. From the Bencao.

  32. 味似葱而不甚辛. 疑是今之紫葱也. 《俗方》

    미사총이불심신. 의시금지자총야. 《속방》

    It tastes like scallion but is not very pungent; perhaps it is what we now call the purple scallion. From the Sokbang.
