乾漆 마른옻 (건칠)

1. 性溫, 味辛, 有毒.

   성온, 미신, 유독.

   It is warm in nature, pungent in taste, and toxic — a potent and stimulating herb.

2. 消瘀血.

   소어혈.

   It disperses stagnant blood, breaking up long-standing clots.

3. 主女人經脉不通, 及疝瘕.

   주여인경맥불통, 급산가.

   It chiefly treats blocked menstruation in women and the abdominal masses known as san-ga (疝瘕).

4. 利小腸, 去蛔蟲, 破堅積, 止血暈, 殺三蟲, 治傳尸勞.

   이소장, 거회충, 파견적, 지혈훈, 살삼충, 치전시로.

   It promotes the small intestine, expels roundworms, breaks hard accumulations, halts postpartum blood-vertigo, kills the three worms, and treats consumptive disease (jeon-si-ro).

5. 漆桶中自然有乾者, 狀如蜂房, 孔孔隔, 堅若鐵石者, 爲佳.

   칠통중자연유건자, 상여봉방, 공공격, 견약철석자, 위가.

   The best grade is what hardens naturally in the lacquer pail — honeycomb-shaped, hollowed in cells, and dense as iron or stone.

6. 入藥須擣碎, 炒令烟出, 不爾, 損人腸胃.

   입약수도쇄, 초령연출, 불이, 손인장위.

   For medicinal use it must be pounded and roasted until smoke rises; otherwise it injures the stomach and intestines. This processing tames its toxicity.

7. 素畏漆者, 勿服. 《本草》

   소외칠자, 물복. 《본초》

   Those who are naturally allergic to lacquer must not take it. From the Bencao.

8. 性畏漆者, 入雞子淸和藥內用. 《正傳》

   성외칠자, 입계자청화약내용. 《정전》

   For the lacquer-sensitive, mix egg white into the formula — the white acts as a buffer. From the Jeongjeon.

10. 去長蟲, 久服輕身耐老. 仙方有服法

    거장충, 구복경신내로. 선방유복법

    It expels long worms; with prolonged use the body grows light and ages slowly — a method preserved in Daoist immortal recipes.

11. 夏至後採取.

    하지후채취.

    It is collected after the summer solstice, when the sap is at its fullest.

12. 漆性幷急, 凡取時, 須荏油解破.

    칠성병급, 범취시, 수임유해파.

    Lacquer flares fiercely all at once; when harvesting, perilla oil is used to soften and tame its force.

13. 凡驗漆, 以物蘸起, 細而不斷, 斷而急收. 又塗於乾竹上, 蔭之速乾者, 幷佳. 《本草》

    범험칠, 이물잠기, 세이부단, 단이급수. 우도어건죽상, 음지속건자, 병가. 《본초》

    To test lacquer: dipped on a tool, the strand should draw out thin without breaking, and when it does break should snap back fast. Also good is lacquer that dries quickly in the shade on dry bamboo. From the Bencao.

14. 蟹黃能化漆爲水, 故解漆毒. 《入門》

    해황능화칠위수, 고해칠독. 《입문》

    Crab roe can dissolve lacquer back into water, and so it neutralizes lacquer poisoning. From the Ipmun.
