楡皮 느릅나무 껍질 (유피)

  1. 性平, 味甘, 無毒.

    성평, 미감, 무독.

    Its nature is neutral, its taste sweet, and it is non-toxic, making it gentle enough for prolonged use.

  2. 性滑利, 主大小便不通, 利水道.

    성활리, 주대소변불통, 이수도.

    Its slippery, free-flowing nature opens blocked bowels and urination, smoothing the body's water passages, an effect linked to its rich mucilage.

  3. 除腸胃邪熱, 消浮腫, 利五淋, 治不眠, 療齁.

    제장위사열, 소부종, 이오림, 치불면, 요후.

    It clears noxious heat from stomach and intestines, reduces swelling, relieves the five urinary disorders, eases insomnia, and even calms heavy snoring.

  4. 生山中, 處處有之.

    생산중, 처처유지.

    It grows in the mountains and can be found here and there across the country, a tree long familiar at village edges and forest skirts.

  5. 二月採皮取白, 暴乾, 三月採實, 作醬食, 甚香美. 《本草》

    이월채피취백, 폭건, 삼월채실, 작장식, 심향미. 《본초》

    In the second lunar month the bark is stripped and only the white inner layer is sun-dried, while in the third month the fruits are gathered and fermented into a fragrant, savory paste; the part used as medicine is the white inner bark, known as yubaekpi. From the Bencao.
